Rob Wendt is one of only two board certified Social Security Disability specialists in the state of South Carolina, and one of just 59 in the U.S. certified by the National Board of Legal Specialty Certification. In his 30 years of practicing law, he has successfully handled thousands of Social Security Disability claims.
Rob earned his bachelor’s degree from Washington and Lee University and went on to earn his law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law.
While he now focuses on Social Security and other disability benefit claims, earlier in his career Rob practiced public interest law involving mental health and the environment. In the 1980s, he was lead counsel in Fair Housing Act litigation for Palmetto Pathway Homes, Inc., which provided residential housing for the mentally ill, resulting in a landmark Supreme Court decision.
Rob’s colleagues have elected him numerous times as chair of the Social Security Section of the South Carolina Association for Justice (formerly the South Carolina Trial Lawyers Association). He served in the position from 1997 to 2000 and from 2003 to 2007. He is a founding member of the Social Security Disability Law Section for the American Association for Justice where he acted as section chair from 2000 to 2001.
Rob is currently a member of the South Carolina Bar, the American Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association and the Charleston County Bar Association. Additionally, he is a sustaining member of the National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives (NOSSCR), the American Association for Justice and the South Carolina Association for Justice.
Rob is admitted to practice in South Carolina, the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina and the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeal.
